Nuts (The Hudson Valley Series), by Alice Clayton

The New York Times bestselling author of Wallbanger and Rusty Nailed is back with Nuts, the first in a brand new series set in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley.

Roxie Callahan is a private chef to some of Hollywood’s wealthiest, and nastiest, calorie-counting wives. After a dairy disaster implodes her carefully crafted career in one fell ploop, she finds herself back home in upstate New York, bailing out her hippie mother and running the family diner.

When gorgeous local farmer Leo Maxwell delivers her a lovely bunch of organic walnuts, Roxie wonders if a summer back home isn’t such a bad idea after all. Leo is heavily involved in the sustainable slow food movement, and he likes to take his time. In all things. Roxie is determined to head back to the west coast as soon as summer ends, but will the pull of lazy fireflies and her very own Almanzo Wilder be enough to keep her home for good?

Salty. Spicy. Sweet. Nuts. Go on, grab a handful.

Nuts by Alice Clayton is a refreshingly fun romantic comedy
By Christy Baldwin BBU
Nuts by Alice Clayton is a refreshingly fun romantic comedy. Sometimes when I’m reading I’ll think ‘This would make a perfect movie.’ I could easily see this book on the big screen. It was sweet, funny, smart and sassy.

Roxie is a chef to the stars in LA. She loves her job, it’s exactly what she wants to be doing. When her mom calls her with a request to run the family’s diner for the summer, Roxie does it, even though it’s the last thing she wants to do. Her first week there, she runs into a man who makes her look twice. Roxie knows there is something special about Leo, but the thing is, she doesn’t do love.

Roxie is also not planning on staying in this small New York town forever. Leo is a farmer in her town, and isn’t planning on going anywhere. They have the summer together. When they’re together, sparks fly. Their chemistry is palpable. You can tell when their attraction starts to shift into something more. Something that scares Roxie. Her plan is and has always been to help her mom out, run the diner for the summer, then go back to California. Now things are changing. She’s got all kinds of small town ideas. She sees possibilities. Is this change in her life something she’s willing to risk? Or is going back to California the path she’ll take…

Roxie is a character I think most of us can relate to. She struggles with doing what she wants to do with her life and following her dreams. When her dreams become something she least expected, it takes her a minute to embrace that change. Change can be scary, but it can also be a great thing. Leo is a great man. As much as I love both characters separately, together is where they really shine. Leo and Roxie together are a hoot. Clayton always writes the most naturally funny characters. No one is trying too hard, there is no slap stick humor, it’s just all around genuinely funny.

Alice Clayton’s writing style is always fun and fantastic. After reading Wallbanger, I had such high expectations I felt as though nothing she's written since really lived up to that book… Until I read Nuts. This is my new favorite book by her. It made me laugh, it made me smile, and just left me in an all around good mood. If you’re looking for a fun book with a feisty heroine, great hero and a charming storyline, pick this one up!

I really wanted to love this but I just couldn't
By K. A. Lander
I really wanted to love this but I just couldn't.

The gorgeous cover and the hilarious title had me thinking I was in for a sexy, humorous story but what I felt like I got was something pretty tame and almost boring in places.

Roxie is living a fast paced, crazy life in Hollywood, working as a chef to the stars, but one phone call from back home in small town Hudson Valley, has all of that changing and her whole life taking a 180. She goes back home to work in the family diner. It's here that she meets the gorgeous local farmer, Leo.

Roxie makes it clear from the get go that she isn't interested in anything serious. She's only back home for the summer, so a summer fling is all they can have. Of course this works fine until feelings start to get involved...

My problem with the book is that nothing about it was new or original. I feel like I've read this book a million times before, just with different characters and a different setting. I knew what to expect and I could guess what was coming. I just wasn't excited by the story at all. And I didn't find any of it all that funny.

My favourite part was actually the ending. The last 10% or so I thought was brilliant and captivating. I really enjoyed it. I just wish all of the book could have had that same feeling.

Funny, intense, romantic - perfect read
By NicShef❤️Reading
Thank-you Aice Clayton for your Incredible gift - not only are you a great writer but you balance intense romance with reality and fun! NUTS is all of that and more it is absolutely hilarious and so romantic. This had the added dimension of being set in the incredible Hudson Valley with mouth watering produce and incredible recipes (I so wish they were included in the book) as the backdrop.
Roxie is a professional chef and currently working as a personal chef to Los Angeles's rich and famous when we meet her. A small mistake leads to Roxie being fired and within hours and all of her clients abandon her. Much to Roxie’s disappointment, it’s really perfect timing though because her mother needs her to come home and run the family diner (which she always swore she'd never run!) so she can go on The Amazing Race.
Roxie doesn’t do love, she does do hook ups, but she isn’t looking for more. She has shaken the shy, introverted, small town Roxie she used to be and now is confident, culinary genious California Roxie and nothing is going to hurtle her back to her insecure days.
Leo Maxwell is a farmer, but not just any farmer, he operates one of the oldest farms in the area the Maxwell Farm. The farm has been in his family for generations, but it was Leo who got it up and running and made it the success it is today. Leo is known for being handsome, charismatic and charming, but completely untouchable. His green eyes sound divine!
Roxie and Leo meet in a hilariously embarrassing "banging together" slap stick comedy moment filled with plenty of sexual innuendo as he was delivering "nuts" and from there develop a flirtation. When they both realize neither is looking for more they decide to hangout/hookup for the summer. Leo and Roxie together are hilarious, sexy and so completely heart warming. Their banter is like no other author can deliver (Alice Clayton's speciality without a doubt) I love how their real feelings develop between the two of them - it just creeps up on both of them and the reader. The ensemble cast of mad mothers, gorgeous gay best friends! townsfolk and the like, make this such a fabulous read. I don't know why I waited... Seriously, I have already pre-bought the next in the series. Enjoy! It will make you feel good and leave you smiling long after you read it.....
