About the Author
Born above a shoe shop in the mid-1960s, Neil spent most of his childhood in Wakefield in West Yorkshire as his father pursued a career in the shoe trade. This took Neil to Bridlington in his teens, where he failed all his exams and discovered that doing nothing soon turns into long-term unemployment. Re-inventing himself, Neil returned to education in his 20s, qualified as a solicitor when he was 30, and now spends his days in the courtroom and his evenings writing crime fiction.

Promissing debut

Neil White's promissing debut " Fallen Idols" is a strong imaginative crime novel. There is a serial killer, ten year old murder, brave hero and his newfound love interest. Unfortunately there is so much more than that, so the first book seems little overblown and in a dire need of a firmer editor.
For a new writer it can be hard to excercise patience and to resist the temptation to include just about everything that comes to mind. That is editor's job.
I am looking forward to another book by Neil White, but with a better and choosier editor.

There was a lot of potential in this book but because of the weakness of plot and the way it was written from the perspective of a number of different characters it was not an easy read and I often found myself wondering who was being written about. It may not have been as bad with a paperback where I could thumb back through the pages, not an easy task with the Kindle.
The plot initially makes little sense as to why someone should be able to make a footballer confess to a murder he committed by killing other footballers still escapes me however further into the book thing come together and at the end is a nice twist that I did not see coming. I also found that from the descriptions in the book I could not visualise the characters which for me makes a book not very interesting.
